Choosing Better is a Daily Offering...Finding True Joy is Possible
How To Live Like Jesus
Learning How to Live Like Jesus
We hear of Christian living- we know it’s something to strive for, but what exactly does that mean? How can one learn to live like Jesus- someone who walked the earth thousands of years ago? The following are just a few tips to help you get started.
Know That There is Nothing New Under the Sun
Just because Jesus was alive more than 2000 years ago does not mean that the lessons He taught and decisions He made no longer apply. Ecclesiastes 1:9 says that there is nothing new under the sun. The mechanics may have changed, and some details are different, but the foundational principles are no different. When we acknowledge this fact, we can more easily see the parallels between then and now.
Read the Word
You can’t learn how to live like Jesus until you know how He lived. By reading the Word, you can learn the principles by which Jesus lived so that you can emulate that behavior. The knowledge and wisdom we gain from the Word of God help to renew our minds and influence our daily walk.
Pray
An essential part of Christian living is prayer. Although Jesus was the Son of God and one with God, He made prayer a priority. We, too, are to pray about everything without ceasing. In doing so, we are not only mimicking Jesus’ behavior but also keeping the lines of communication open between God and us.
Read Devotionals
Devotionals are a great way to learn how to apply the Word to your life. There are plenty available for women, families, men, girls, boys, and other groups. You can buy paperback copies or download something like the Bible app so you can take it with you everywhere you go.
Surround Yourself With Godly People
One of the best ways to learn how to live like Jesus is by surrounding yourself with people trying to meet the same goal. No one is perfect, and no one is going to get it right 100 percent of the time. However, by surrounding yourself with like-hearted people, you have a support system to learn alongside and grow with.
Build Up Your Toolbox
This life may not always be easy- but living more like Jesus can make every minute worthwhile. Having some encouraging tools on hand for the tough days can help push you through to the brighter ones. My new book, Choosing to Choose Better, is a great addition to your belt, as are many other inspirational books. Find a few that you love and highlight every sentence that inspires you. When you feel ready to bury your head in the sand, pull out those tools for a little rejuvenation.
Question: What is one change you would like to commit to for the next 30 days to help you on your Christian living path?
